Milan Avenue Rehabilitation - Amherst, Ohio

The pavement on Milan Avenue from Quarry Road to North Lake Street needed rehabilitation for some time, but problems with the 8-inch diameter vitrified clay sanitary sewer which was located beneath the pavement, and a lack of adequate storm drainage, postponed the pavement repair for several years. The City of Amherst applied for funding assistance through the Ohio Public Works Commission Issue 2 Program to rehabilitate all three of these items as part of one project. The 8-inch clay sanitary sewer was replaced with a 12-inch PVC sanitary sewer and relocated outside of the pavement. The 12-inch diameter and 15-inch diameter storm sewers were replaced with larger diameter storm sewers up to 36-inches in diameter. The existing sandstone curbs were replaced with new concrete curbs and 3-inches of the old asphalt was milled off and replaced with 3.5 inches of new asphalt.

Brunkhorst Engineering Consultants, Inc. prepared the application for Issue 2 funding, performed the necessary field surveys, prepared detailed plan and specifications, coordinated the bidding, performed construction layout staking, provided construction engineering and inspection, and served as the Issue 2 coordinator for the project.

The project was completed in June 2003 and had a final construction cost of $542,900.
